They say that if you want to wake up early,
you shouldn’t decide what time to wake up.
You should decide what time to go to bed.
I’m someone who focuses well in the morning.
So I’ve always wanted to wake up early.
The problem is,
I’m naturally a night person.
It’s one of those parts of myself that feels almost cursed.
I want to wake up at 5 a.m. every day.
But if I really want that,
I have to turn off the lights and lie down before 11 p.m.
That means I need to be asleep by 11,
not just in bed.
And if I want to function well,
I probably need a short nap during the day too.
When I look at it this way,
I realize the problem was never the morning.
I used to blame myself
for not being able to wake up early.
But the real problem was that
I was trying to wake up early
while still going to sleep late.
I always tried to fix my mornings,
but what I really needed to change
was my nights.
