Last year, I ran a 10km race.
After that,
I told myself
that I should run a half marathon this year.
And now,
it’s this year.
The race is in September,
and registration opens in May.
But I already know something.
My body isn’t ready for a half marathon yet.
It wasn’t ready last year either.
I didn’t have enough strength,
and I knew I needed to do strength training.
But I ignored it
and kept running anyway.
I finished the 10km
by pushing through with willpower.
And of course,
my knees started to hurt.
A half marathon is different.
It’s not something you can finish
with willpower alone.
I have four months left.
What I need now
is the strength training
I kept putting off.
Lunges, bridges, clamshells, planks.
Without that,
I won’t be able to go further.
This month,
I’m choosing strength over running.
